Farber Event
To those in the community I want to pass on this little item: Nite Moves has sponsored and supported the Echelon Youth Program and there is an upcoming event by another Sponsor, Susan Farber: Here are her comments and an invitation to her upcoming Fund Raiser and a link to her website. Susan's Comments: "Dear Colleagues, Friends and Customers of Beaded Brilliance,For those who don't know, I have a jewelry side business where I design and sell beaded jewelry. In addition, my sport psychology business, The Winning Edge for Sport and Life, has sponsored Echelon of Santa Barbara, a local cycling club. I am hosting a jewelry party to raise money for the Echelon Junior cycling program, a non-profit organization and a registered USCF club since 1986. The club supports the junior team by supplying equipment, coaching, and transportation to all races. Coaching is provided by 1984 Olympian and record-holder Rory O'Reilly. Through is efforts and the support of Echelon and its sponsors, the Junior Cycling team has exceeded all expectations, not only in cycling ability and races won, but also in each rider¹s personal growth and commitment to the community. The Echelon Junior Cycling Team aims to build a sustainable Junior Development Program that supports young riders in their goals both on and off their bikes. Their objective is to provide Olympic-caliber coaching and support so that each junior can reach his or her full potential. The team teaches young riders about teamwork and responsibility not only as cyclists, but also as students and members of the community. I am attaching the invitation which you are welcome to pass along to friends and family. You can check out my designs at beadedbrilliance.bz. I hope to see you there. Sincerely, Susan Farber Susan Farber, M.A., MFT Labels: Echelon Youth Sponsor: Susan Farber

PIER TO PEAK 2009 Wrap Up Report
The New P2P Course Map will shortly be available for as a full page print out. The PDF will be posted on the Pier To Peak home page. I appreciate your comments and blogs and will add them as I receive links to share with all: 9-12-09 Recieved this commentary (click here) from David, a 2007-2008 & 2009 participant. Thanks to all that participated in the Pier To Peak 2009, runners, walkers, volunteers and the clean up crews... The weather was good to us, the heat of the last week subsided, from all reports enough water on the course...good volunteer support... Our 2009 Champion is Eric Forte in a time of 1:35:09 (he won the shorter former course tin 2007)...great job once again Eric! Photos have been posted and here is th edirect link courtesty of Mike at Santa Barbara Pix: http://santabarbarapix.com/gallery.php?gid=929 There was some confusion at two points along the course. First at APS: just past the Mission where several walkers and runners wanted to just go right, Bill Rupp reported he had to chase down a few people to keep them on the course...well marked, but we will enhance that intersection next year...thanks Bill for addressing that situation for me. The second situation became a "Hot Button"...at the 10.8/11.2 mile water station, where the course juts 400 meters up and back down to insure the Half marathon distance, had two cones to mark the turn spot but was not chalked, and apparently the second runner that arrived at the water station did not comprehend the instructions to turn at the cone, and ran past the cones and continued east on the ridge...and 5-6 runners followed his lead. This included Women's winner Sara Diller, who had run the course and won in 2008, and although she knew in her head that she should turn she too followed the pack...Thanks to Dave Parker and the volunteers at the water station when the lead runners did not come right back down they sent out a car to get the runners to return to the course. At this point Ricky Ho realizing that leaders had gone the wrong way opted to pause and wait and only resumed his running when those who had been in front of him had returned to the course...very sportmans like of Ricky, and those who know Ricky, know he is a class act. Ultimately it is the race director's responsibility to have the course correctly marked. I will have clear signage posted at these locations in the future. My apologies to those of you who veered off course. We were actually out of the park almost 40 minutes earlier than last year. While it seemed the shuttles were no where to be found, it simply takes almost an hour for them to make the round trip and they are scheduled to run contineously until we have cleared all participants...for the first time in the years that I have directed the event...there was no one waiting when the crew departed the park and I and the crew began our descent and policed the course for any waste ot debris...my Labor Day Job now begins as I sort through the many black trash bags heaped in my drive way. I appreciate any and all feedback that I receive. Hope you enjoyed yourself and enjoyed the day. Again, thanks for participating in the 2009 edition of Pier To Peak, Jake Clinton
We now have a new course available that has greater detail and we are continuing to work on it for the 2010 edition of Pier To Peak
